Gameplay in Swim Lessons

Swim England is encouraging swimming teachers to incorporate games into their lessons to help children build water confidence while learning key swimming skills. To create a fun, inclusive and supportive learning environment, Swim England are providing activity packs with laminated, splash-proof poolside cards to help instructors easily include games.
The national governing body advocates that playing games is an effective way for children to build water confidence as well as grasp swimming concepts, practice independence and aid cognitive growth, all while having fun.
The Swim England Activity Packs are laminated splash-proof cards that provide poolside resources for swimming teachers to help them integrate gameplay into lesson delivery, ensuring an exclusive and supportive swimming programme.
Alex Barrett, senior technical aquatics manager at Swim England, says: “We believe that integrating gameplay into lesson delivery is a really powerful way to engage learners, support the development of independence and confidence in the water, as well as supporting their ongoing social, emotional and physical development.
“We want to get a nation swimming, and our activity packs are an effective, enjoyable and fundamental part of helping every child become a competent and confident swimmer.”
