Project: (3271) Tamworth Splash Pad

Client: Merton Council

Design: Ustigate Waterplay / Vortex International

Project Description: Paddling pool converted to Splash Pad

Water Management: Recirculation System

Main Contractor: Ustigate Waterplay

Installation: 2014 / Area: 256m²

Challenge:

The paddling pool was old and tired and the operational costs were uneconomical. A new and exciting aquatic play experience was required.

Success:

The water play facility at Tamworth Recreation Ground has a great variety of products and a small drain away splash pool for toddlers. Tamworth was the first place in the UK to accommodate our Vortex International Spider in 2014 and our Tamworth Spider remains very much at home and as popular today. Standing over 3 metres high and bright orange in colour, Spider is a tall and friendly character full of multifunctional features that engage children in collaborative and cooperative play. There are eight ground activators that control the ten water jets on each of Spider’s legs and the gushing water effects that descend from Spider’s head, front and rear body. Spider is an innovative, friendly creature that promotes childhood confidence through social interaction, team building and learning the cause and the effect of actions. Spider, Aqualien Rain Forest No.7 and a great selection of sequenced ground jets invite everyone to enjoy aquatic play at Tamworth Splash Pad.

To provide Merton Council with the ability to extend their play provision without the need to break the ground again, Ustigate installed some additional Safeswap™ anchors. A Safeswap™ anchor can be capped, provided as a ground spray or fitted with an above ground product. The PWTAG compliant recirculation system ensures the highest quality water for children to play in.

This project was funded by Merton Council and a local benefactor; in memory of daughter Elisabeth.

In June 2021 Ustigate returned to resurface Tamworth Splash Pad. A new choice of cheerful colours presents Tamworth Splash Pad as good as new!
