Project: ( 3089 ) Abbey Leisure Splashpad

Client: Cambridge City Council

Design: Ustigate Waterplay / Vortex International

Main Contractor: Ustigate

Water Management: Flow Through System

Installation: 2014  / Area: 156m²

Challenge:

The Abbey Leisure paddling pool was tired and in need of an upgrade. Ustigate were commissioned to replace the paddling pool with an inclusive splashpad and a more exciting aquatic play experience. The water management is a flow through system, enabling water to be drawn from the mains water supply to feed all features.

Success:

The new Abbey Leisure Splashpad in Cambridge was installed over the footprint of the former paddling pool. The low brick wall enclosing the old paddling pool was removed to create a more open aspect. The product mix consists of ground jets and a range of above ground features including tipping buckets and water cannons. A toddler bay was included in the design to cater for the smaller children with some calmer spray features to provide a gentle introduction to aquatic play. The splashpad was completed with a bright non-slip paint finish and the facility has proven very popular with visitors since day one.

Abbey Leisure Complex in Cambridge also offers a 25 metre pool with five swimming lanes, a 12 metre learner pool, a poolside sauna, changing rooms with secure locker storage, a modern gym with a spinning studio, sports pitches, a BMX track, a children’s play area and free table tennis.
