Success:

A state of the art leisure centre funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Coastal Communities Fund and Sport England, opened by sporting stars Rebecca Adlington, Gail Emms and Dean Windass. Ustigate Waterplay and Vortex International designed and installed a splash zone incorporating multi-level Elevations™ with water slides, and interactive items to entertain everyone.

The Elevations™ has a range of cannons at different levels to promote social interaction and soaking friends and families in the pool. The Elevations™ has a variety of water effects on and off the structure through colourful flower heads and tipping buckets, providing visitors with a vibrant environment to enjoy aquatic play. The focal point of the structure is the massive Supersplash where users must wait for the bucket to fill up and once full, it releases a tidal wave soaking everyone in its spray zone. Many features on the Elevations™ are manufactured out of Seeflow™ material, allowing incoming sunlight to reflect colourful patterns around the pool. The Elevations™ cater for a range of age groups with two water slides – The first has a 360 degree turn making it perfect for older children and the second is much shorter making it perfect for toddlers and young children. A Cascade No 1 at accessible height offers inclusive flow play and the opportunity to collaborate and create differing water effects via a number of different game options. Around the edge of the pool there are three Tube No 1 cannons and eight Rooster Tail Jets offering aquatic play for all users.

As well as aquatic play, East Riding Leisure, Bridlington has a 25 metre six-lane swimming pool, a learner pool, a health suite, a tone zone with 100 stations, a clip n climb area, a six-court sports hall, exercise studio, two squash courts, meeting rooms and a café.

At the opening, Leader of the Council Cllr Parnaby said “This is a very exciting day for Bridlington. I am delighted that we are now able to welcome customers to this stunning facility, which will totally transform what Bridlington has to offer all year round for residents and visitors, whatever the weather. I am particularly proud that we have been able to deliver this leisure centre on time and within budget.”

Sport England Director Charles Johnston said “Congratulations to the Council for delivering this fantastic leisure centre which makes being active accessible, affordable and fun. Having access to facilities like this can be a big draw for people thinking about getting active, and that’s why we are delighted to invest £2 million of National Lottery funding in the centre. Thanks to the impressive range of sports and activities on offer, it really can be enjoyed by everyone in Bridlington, and I wish it every continued success.”

The centre has proven to be a huge success with an estimated 50,000 plus people visiting the facility in the first six weeks.
